Jaisalmer is a famous tourist destination and an important tourist destination in Rajasthan, India. It is situated in the very heart of the Thar Desert. It is also known as the Golden City of India. The city stands on an edge of yellowish sandstone crowned by a majestic fort called Jaisalmer Durg or Jaisalmer ka Kila or Golden Fort or Sonar Kila. The Fort complex houses many beautiful palaces and elaborate Jain Temples. Tourists have a brilliant opportunity to see finely sculptured houses, buildings, and temples inside the fort complex.

Tourists Attractions in Jaisalmer

Golden Fort: Situated on the Trikuta hill this majestic fort was built in the year 1156by the Bhati Rajput Ruler Jaisal. The fort has been the scene of many battles. It is one of the invincible forts in India. This is a living fort complex in India. About a quarter of the city’s population still resides inside the complex of Sonar Kila. Raj Mahal (Royal Palace), Laxminath Temple, and Jain Temples are major attractions of Golden Fort.

Patwon-Ki-Haveli: It is a beautiful ornate five-storey haveli complex in Jaisalmer. It is the largest haveli and the most magnificent haveli in Jaisalmer.

Salim Singh Ki Haveli: This haveli was built by the scheming Prime Minister Salim Singh in the year 1815. It has a marvelously vaulted roof capped with blue cupolas and engraved brackets in the form of peacocks.

Nathmalji-Ki-Haveli:  This haveli was built by a Prime Minister of the princely state of Jaisalmer. Its façade is beautifully decorated with stone sculptures of flowers, elephants, birds, soldiers, etc.

Simla Haveli: This haveli is situated in the Jaisalmer Fort Complex. It is a 500-year-old building.

Haveli Shreenath: It is a beautiful 450-year-old haveli in Jaisalmer.

Gadsiar Lake: It is a scenic rainwater lake surrounded by small temples and shrines.

Other Attractions: Desert National Park, Sam Sand Dunes, Jaisalmer Folklore Museum, Khuri Village, Mehra Haveli, Government Museum, Desert Culture Centre & Museum, etc.

By Air: The nearest convenient airport is at Jodhpur at a distance of 285 km from Jaisalmer.

By Rail: Jaisalmer is well connected by rail network with Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra, New Delhi, and Mumbai.

By Road: Jaisalmer is well connected by an excellent road network with Delhi and major cities of Rajasthan like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, and other nearby cities of India.
